Creative Point returned to C4DI last week for its first Hull-based event of 2020.
Trying out a slightly different format from its usual one keynote speaker, the event on Thursday night saw three guests interviewed by members of the Creative Point team in front of a small, intimate audience.
The meetup focused on community building and gave insight into how each speaker had built and used communities to grow their brand and spread important messages.
Dom Smith, Founder of Soundsphere Magazine and Wobbling About and Rocking Out, a campaign that promotes disability and mental health awareness, was the first guest to be interviewed.
He revealed how he's built Soundsphere Magazine, an online music publication, and tells us that without the community and support behind it, it wouldn't have been possible.
Jennifer Gilmour, who has built the #AbuseTalk community, talked openly about how she has used her experience of domestic abuse to help others that may need support.
"#AbuseTalk started as a Twitter chat but has now grown into a community, with a blog, podcast and online forum. It reaches people around the world and has become a crucial lifeline for some."
The final speaker was Ryan Cole, a freelance animator and motion graphics designer that has used the platform Reddit and its communities to showcase his work and grow his brand.
"Reddit is not a marketing platform, but getting involved in communities and publishing my work online has resulted in a few business leads," Ryan explains.
Afterwards, there was a chance for questions from the audience, followed by a trip to Taphouse for a more informal discussion about community building between the speakers and attendees.
Creative Point was founded by three C4DI community members, Director of Bloom Creative Courtney Farrow, freelance copywriter Tim Goodfellow and freelance social media marketer Matt Johnson.
It aims to bring together the city's digital and creative communities, through a series of talks, workshops and events.
Since its inception in July, Creative Point has delivered ten sessions, including three workshops at Barclays Eagle Labs at Avenue HQ in Leeds.
