C4DI member Bombyx PLM has been announced as one of five Yorkshire regional winners for the Rising Stars 3.0 competition.
Rising Stars 3.0 is the UK’s most exciting national competition for innovative, early-stage tech companies, designed to showcase the best the country has to offer and to help companies become investor ready. The Rising Stars competition provides the opportunity for early-stage scaleups to meet leading investors, influencers and corporates.
Bombyx PLM manages the entire lifecycle of a product from inception, through engineering design and manufacture, to service and disposal of manufactured products. Integrating people, data, processes, and business systems, it provides a product information backbone. The platform reduces time to market, improves product quality, reduces prototyping costs, identifies potential sales opportunities and revenue contributions, maintains and sustains operational serviceability, and reduces environmental impacts at end-of-life.
“We’re absolutely ecstatic to be a Regional Winner representing Yorkshire! Bombyx has had a brilliant year engaging with brands, manufacturers and educational institutes,” Lucy Blackley, Founder and CEO of Bombyx tells us.
“We're levelling the playing field for brands and manufacturers of all shapes and sizes, to get on board digitally with solutions that streamline their products lifecycle process and enable them to scale both their brand and product ranges through the aid of digital means that have been built for product people by product people."
Bombyx PLM is the only Hull-based company to be selected as a regional winner for the competition and sits alongside Leeds-based Beconsoft, Cognito Learning, Hyper and Klaxon. They have been selected by a panel of industry experts and the companies are regarded as tech leaders within their respective regions.
There were 330 applications in total, with 62% of applications received from outside of London. Lucy is also one of the 39% of female founders and co-founders to be selected.
“I'm so proud to see such a strong cohort of semi-finalists from across Yorkshire. These are some of the most exciting companies I've spoken to in the past year. Even given the difficult situation we have found ourselves in since March, it's wonderful to see Yorkshire tech go from strength to strength all across the region,” says Jem Henderson, Entrepreneur Engagement Manager for Yorkshire at Tech Nation.
Taking part in Rising Stars allows businesses to showcase their work, be introduced to the Tech Nation alumni network, meet potential investors and receive pitch training and coaching.
“After quite a few years building away at our product innovation platform, it's such a great feeling to be recognised for what we're doing and how we're transforming product design and manufacturing industries,” Lucy adds.
The competition culminates in the top 20 companies being showcased online and promoted to a curated audience of investors, corporates, influencers and the wider tech ecosystem. The judging panel will then deliberate over the final 20, selecting 10 companies to be named as this year’s Rising Stars. The 10 Rising Stars UK Winners will be revealed in February 2021.
“Everyone knows that 2020 is a challenging year. We're honoured that so many companies took the time to apply for Rising Stars 3.0 and are truly excited about the calibre of our Regional Winners. It's great to see companies from every imaginable sector in the competition, and from every corner of the UK - from Aberdeen to Falmouth and everywhere in between,” enthuses Esme Caulfield, Competitions Lead at Tech Nation.
The 55 Rising Stars Regional Winners are companies that are proving their resilience and adaptability, building products that will support businesses and customers both now, and into the future. They are all deserving of recognition - and here at Tech Nation, we're thrilled to celebrate and showcase them.”
