The Importance of Community and Creativity in the Workplace

Community: 'a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common.'

Our members don't necessarily live at C4DI (although that can't be said for some), however we do all have a particular characteristic in common; we all love tech, and use it in one form or another to run businesses spanning many different industries.

C4DI Community Manager Dileepa Ranawake explains why having a good community culture is essential in a coworking community:

"A strong community starts with a good culture, where people care for each other and help each other grow on a daily basis."
"Even though we all work in different fields across many sectors, we all have the same common goal of progressing our businesses and achieving success. C4DI is filled with talented individuals that are doing just that: collaborating, creating, and challenging each other to achieve more."

Creativity: 'the use of imagination or original ideas to create something; inventiveness.'

Sarah Louise Davies has worked professionally across live arts, transformative culture & creative industries for over 11 years, collaborating nationally.

She is currently working from C4DI as a Creative Practitioner, where her work has been shortlisted in the VHEY Remarkable Passion for Culture and the Arts Award 2017, along with being asked to speak at TEDx Hull. We asked Sarah why she thinks creativity is important in daily work:

"Participating in creativity is a basic fundamental human function and vital ingredient to both thriving work place community and innovation – it’s the first thing we do as children."
"A culture of authentic and radical creativity at C4DI is vital for innovation, health and building a strong community. There is so much creative potential within C4DI and areas of re-generation in Hull; making space for creativity is one of the most valuable things we can do."

As this week marks the start of our community focus event, there is no better time to join us for a taster day if you'd like to see what it's like to be part of our amazing community!
